MVP

« Back to Glossary Index

MVP (short for Minimum Viable Product) is the simplest version of a product you can build that still works — just enough to test your idea and learn from real users.

The term comes from lean startup methodology, made famous by Eric Ries. The idea is to launch fast with a version that’s not perfect, but functional. This way, you don’t waste time building features nobody wants. You get feedback early, iterate, and improve — rather than guessing in a bubble.

Imagine you’re inventing a ride-sharing app. Instead of building a complex platform with live tracking, payments, and reviews, your MVP might be a simple form where users request a ride and you manually pair them with drivers. If people use it, you know you’re onto something. If not, you pivot — before burning your whole budget.

MVP isn’t about cutting corners; it’s about building smart. It’s the first pancake: quick, maybe a little messy, but good enough to see if the recipe is working.
