KPI

« Back to Glossary Index

KPI (short for Key Performance Indicator) is a measurable value that shows how well something is working — like a product, a campaign, or a team.

In business and tech, KPIs help you track progress toward goals. Want to know if your app is growing? Track monthly active users. Launching a marketing campaign? Measure conversion rate. Running a customer support team? Use average response time. Good KPIs are specific, trackable, and tied to outcomes that matter.

What makes a KPI useful?

Not all metrics are KPIs. A real KPI focuses attention — it tells you if you’re winning or losing. “How many people clicked the buy button” is better than “how many people visited the site.” KPIs help teams make decisions, improve performance, and prove value — especially when there’s a boss, a budget, or a big goal involved.

Whether you’re building an app, launching a startup, or running an NGO — if you can measure it, you can improve it.
